    Dear Jehiel,
Since you and Sylvia were kind enough to invite Paula and me to use your apartment in our senior year at JTS, I have felt a special connection to you. I am delighted that your family, friends, congregants and others have chosen to honor you on this palindrome birthday. I am happy to help the Solomon Schechter School of Bergen County, and I look forward to celebrating with you.

It is our pleasure to support two institutions that embody values our Rabbi Orenstein has taught us to live by. We have made a donation to support Jewish education and Camp Ramah. Both the SSDS of Bergen County and the Ann Deener Camp Ramah Fund at Congregation Beth El have received donations in honor of Rabbi Orenstein’s 77th birthday. It is with much love and respect for our Rabbi that we make these donations.

Although we have only known you and your family for a short time, your wonderful warmth, humor, and smile were so welcoming each time we spoke with you. We especially thank you for the gift you share with us at Congregation B’nai Israel: your daughter Rabbi Debra Orenstein.
Congratulations on your 77th birthday. Best regards, Ellen and Dave Michelson

  7. My beloved parents, Al and Phyliss Spack, felt truly blessed to be able to spend their senior years in a congregation led by Jehiel Orenstein. His concern for their human and spiritual needs was overwhelming and he always displayed a remarkable warmth and kindness to them. In their beloved memory my brother and I are pleased to make a donation in his honor.

  8. Dear Rabbi Orenstein,
We wish you a truly wonderful celebration — a man whom we are honored to know (albeit somewhat briefly), respect tremendously, and who has clearly brought many gifts to others including the fundraising for a great cause through this celebration. With love and admiration, Naomi & Bruce Weinberg

Jerry was a student at YCQ, as I was, in the ’50s.
Years later, he married my dear friend and classmate, Sylvia Mowshowitz and Sylvia transfered to Barnard, where I was a student. We remained in slight contact over the years, until the Ramah bunk reunion 3 years ago. Now the “kesher” is so much stronger.
My very best wishes to you, Jerry, on your special birthday. You have such a big, loving, supportive group of family and friends.
